The Helambu Circuit Trek is one of the most accessible trekking routes from Kathmandu, perfect for those with limited time or who prefer to avoid extreme altitudes. The region is the home of the Hyolmo people, known for their unique culture, elaborate traditional dress, and warm hospitality. The trail passes through sweet-smelling rhododendron and pine forests, green valleys, and beautiful apple orchards. Trekkers will visit numerous ancient Buddhist monasteries and enjoy splendid, lower-altitude views of the Langtang, Jugal, and Gaurishankar mountain ranges. Scenic Drive Elev: 1,460 m / 2,165 m

• Trail route: Drive to Sundarijal (1,460 m) and Trek to Chisapani (2,165 m).
• Short drive to the trailhead, then climb through Shivapuri National Park to Chisapani.
• Today is the ultimate challenge.

Trekking Day Elev: 2,470 m

• Trail route: Trek from Chisapani to Kutumsang (2,470 m).
• Walk along ridges with mountain views to the mixed settlement of Kutumsang.
• The path leads us through traditional Tamang villages where houses are decorated with wood carvings and surrounded by potato and barley fields.

Trekking Day Elev: 3,690 m

• Trail route: Trek from Kutumsang to Tharepati (3,690 m).
• Ascend through pine and rhododendron forests to Tharepati, the highest point of the trek.
• We ascend along the open glacier valleys, surrounded by high-altitude yak pastures and stone huts.

Trekking Day Elev: 2,600 m

• Trail route: Trek from Tharepati to Tarkeghyang (2,600 m).
• Descend sharply into the Melamchi valley and climb to Tarkeghyang, a major Hyolmo village.
• Today is the ultimate challenge.

• Trail route: Trek from Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,590 m).
• A gentle, scenic walk past forests, streams, and waterfalls to the village of Sermathang.
• We walk through the beautiful Langtang National Park, characterized by dense forests of oak, maple, and rhododendron.

• Trail route: Trek from Sermathang to Melamchi Bazaar (870 m).
• Long descent down the ridge, passing through various ethnic villages to Melamchi Bazaar.
• Arrive at Melamchi Bazaar; evening dinner and restful overnight stay.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Langtang trailhead starts at Syabrubesi. We travel from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi by private jeep or public bus, which takes about 6 to 8 hours along mountain roads offering beautiful valley views.
You need the Langtang National Park Entry Permit and the TIMS Card. These permits are included in your trek package and will be processed by our guide at the park checkpoint.
The highest point is Kyanjin Ri at 4,773 meters (15,659 ft) or Tserko Ri at 4,984 meters (16,351 ft). These viewpoints offer breathtaking 360-degree panoramas of Langtang Lirung and surrounding peaks.
Yes, the region has fully rebuilt. Langtang Village has been relocated to a safer site, and modern, sturdy teahouses have been built along the entire trail. The community is eager to welcome trekkers back.
Mobile reception (mostly NTC) is available in most villages but can be weak in the deep gorge sections. Wi-Fi is offered in Kyanjin Gumba and other main stops for a small fee.
You can enjoy traditional Dal Bhat, momo (dumplings), thukpa (noodle soup), as well as porridge, eggs, pasta, and pancakes. Yak cheese produced locally in Kyanjin Gumba is a must-try delicacy!
